Historical recreations using dogs

This was sort of Chris's idea, and sort of mine. He wants to film a movie about WWII using dogs, and I just want to do historical recreations (like Civil War battles) using dogs. This reminds me of Orca's idea of making a movie of "Where the Blue Begins." using human actors in dog masks, I think it was, and Jeff Ong's idea about dog waiters.

Anyway, in my version, you would have hundreds of dogs in grey and blue uniforms pretending to duke it out on a muddy field. There would be no actual fighting between dogs, because that wouldn't be fun -- just highly stylized fake fighting.

You could also use dogs for other recreations, like the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or the last spike in the transatlantic railroad, etc. It would be like the dogs playing poker picture, only with historically signficant scenes. I think it would make history a lot more appealing for some people -- dog lovers, anyway.

How about a memorial on the Washington Mall to the dogs who died in the line of duty? Just think of the possibilities: None of this no dogs allowed s---: All dogs would be invited to honor the heroes who made their lives safe and ensured a plentiful supply of dog food. There could be large fields for running, poopie scoopers provided free of charge, perhaps a pond with ducks for the doggie visitor to attack, a symbol of all the evil enemies American canines so easily overcame.

A historical note: In World War I the Germans were the first to make productive use of dogs in combat. Some 10,000 risked life and limb, often under deafening artillery barrages, to out sniff soldiers buried by earth. A memorial to these these once greatest friends of man has not been discussed because the canines betrayed their noble humanism in 1930s and 1940s by putting their doggie talents to bad purposes: sniffing out Socialists, Communists, and Jews hiding from Gestapo and SS agents.
