Tommorrow is National Election Action Day!

There is some kind of big voter registration drive going on tomorrow, and I went to a rally on Wednesday about it. The rally itself was more about how much we all hate Bush than any actual information about registering voters -- kind of inspiring, but a bit of preaching to the choir, and kind of a waste of time for that reason.

Unfortunately, the main part of the whole campaign starts tomorrow at about the same time as the glorious and most popular St. Johns Parade! I'm not going to be in it this year, I'm going to be collecting voter registrations along the sidelines.

Actually, this gives me a good idea for the Alameda float we could do -- someting on "register to vote"! And we could run alongside the float handing out registration cards. Does anyone know yet what the overarching theme for the Alameda parade is?

Fortunately, I found about all the information I needed here. It's interesting, because they say you can't encourage voters to go one way or another, which makes it a lot easier.

I found some interesting information about my neighborhood and its voter registration numbers here. I still don't know what half the things on these maps mean, but it's pretty cool! (I looked at the "unregistered voters" map, and then just kept clicking and clicking and it got more and more detailed - about what, I'm not sure.)

Anyway, all kinds of people are getting into the voter registration racket -- and I think pretty much anyone can do it -- even felons. You just need to take the cards in within 5 days after collecting them. Easy!

Chris is picking up a bunch of voter registration cards for me from the Elections office. Apparently you can get up to 500 of them just by dropping by.

So, wish me luck.

hey! that's a pretty good parade-float idea. i refuse to get too involved in actually planning/making a float (i feel cleaning the house and remembering to buy paper plates are quite enough pre-july 4 work for me, thank you very much), but i'll definitely ride on it.
