Dear Mary: Is the "If That Is Your Real Name" an allusion to Dr. Strangelove, my all time favorite flick? As you may remember, in my last novel I had cause to come up with several band names and I'm quite certain they've all been used before so I'm too ashamed even to google them. If I ever get published I suppose I'll have to check into it because of copyright issues. My names were Jock Itch, Girl-Ella, and Nouveau Pubo aka The Pubes. Maybe your commentators can break the news to me now; that way I'll have plenty of time to come up with new ones before I submit the MS.

As much as I would love to use this name it doesn't quite fit my Hootie/Hanson fusion thang I've been working one for a decade now.
Back in 1977, my brother and I actually won a "name your punk band" contest run by KSAN in San Francisco (now a country station, I think, but back then it was rock-n-roll, with a 2-hour punk show once a week, called The Outcasts). We won with the (now embarassing) name "The Urinators." We got a cool short-play ablbum (one of those small disks that played on 33-rpms) called, "New Wave Rock and Roll: Get Behind It Before It Gets Past You." I think it featured DEVO, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and the Talking Heads, among others. The night before the Sex Pistols final show, in February of 1978 (which I attended, btw), Paul Cooke and Steve Jones were guests on a call-in version of The Outcasts. I, just 11 years old, called and spoke to them--they couldn't tell if I was a gril or a boy. My brother recently dug up a tape of the show, and it was pretty funny to hear. Anyway, I don't why I'm sharing all this; maybe it's just my way of trying to be a cool as Mary, with all her "great ideas." Those of us without ideas have to compensate somehow....
